Apple launches Self Service Repair in Europe

 Apple today announced Self Service Repair is now available in eight European countries, providing repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and tools through the Apple Self Service Repair Store. Customers who wish to complete their own repairs will be able to perform many of the most common repairs for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups, and Mac notebooks with Apple silicon.

Apple's Self Service Repair is now available in eight European countries, with tools for common repairs on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 ranges, plus Apple Silicon Macs.First launched in April 2022 in the US for iPhones, certain Macs were added in August 2022. Now Apple has announced that the program is available in selected countries across Europe:

  • Belgium

  • France

  • Germany

  • Italy

  • Poland

  • Spain

  • Sweden

  • UK

Supported iPhone and Macbook models:

Users in the EU countries can now buy or rent tools and parts to perform "many of the most common repairs" for:

  • iPhone 12 range

  • iPhone 13 range

  • MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

  • 13-inch MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)

  • 14-inch MacBook Pro (2021)

  • 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021)

The Self Service Repair Store provides access to more than 200 individual parts and tools, as well as repair manuals. The program enables customers who are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices the opportunity to complete their own repairs, using the same manuals, parts, and tools as Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers.



Repair KIt:

While customers must order the parts needed for the repair, Apple will provide a $49 kit that includes all the essential tools required to conduct repairs for customers. The rental kit will be available to customers for one week before they're needed to be sent back to Apple and are shipped free of charge. This rental option offers flexibility to customers who may not want to fully own and purchase tools for just a single repair.

The program is part of Apple's efforts to "further expand access to repairs," according to the company. Still, Apple cautions that the "vast majority" of customers should still visit a professional repair provider, such as an Apple Store, to ensure their devices are repaired safely and reliably. Over the last three years, Apple has expanded its repair network, including over 3,000 Independent Repair Providers and more than 5,000 authorized service providers worldwide.


Launch date:

Apple's Self Service Repair program was launched ahead of mounting pressure for technology firms to address Right to Repair. Advocates of Right to Repair say they are not sold on Apple's program, but it is seen as a step in the right direction.

Over the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and training, including more than 4,000 Independent Repair Providers. A global network of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers supports more than 100,000 active technicians. As a result, eight out of 10 Apple customers are located within 30 minutes of an authorized service provider across Europe.
