Ways to Use Your Mac and iPhone Together: Apple's Continuity
Share
Apple has been at the forefront of mobile device innovation for years. With the introduction of iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, Apple is introducing a new feature called Continuity. This allows you to easily access your Mac from your iPhone and vice versa through Wi-Fi connection. We will show you exactly how this works in this blog post!
The convenience of having your phone and computer work together is immense. Whether you're on the go or at home, all of these tools are right there for easy access with Continuity features in macOS (OS X) and iOS!
Copy and Paste Content With Universal Clipboard
You can now seamlessly move between your Apple devices with Continuity, thanks to a special set of features called Handoff. The Universal Clipboard is one part in this package and it allows you copy content on Macs or iPads that has been copied previously elsewhere - like iPhones! It's easy enough once both sides are enabled for their respective tasks by turning ON "HandOff." From there just select what needs editing then hit COPY again when finished making changes so everything gets sent over wirelessly before pressing transfer button at bottom right corner if needed (or not).
Resume Tasks With Handoff
Handoff is a great way to continue your work from one device into another. If you are using Handoff with iOS, then any app that streams content and connects directly through iCloud should be supported for the feature! For instance Mail works perfectly when used on either an iPhone or iPad - it will stop at each stage until transferred over before proceeding again in its original location once completed. As this includes many third party applications such as Keynote presentations made in Pages etc., there's no need whatsoever not have HandOff enabled because everything just works seamlessly between devices without fail even if they're different types of hardware like laptops vs tablets.
If you have an app that works with Handoff on your Mac, like Safari or Mail App it will be easy to see. There's a gray circle with the word "Handoff" in tiny letters right above it and below this is what looks like two phones placed side-by-side - one blue (on), then another yellow(out). Clicking either of these icons takes us straight back into where we were when using our iPhones at home before leaving!
If you're looking for the switch-a button, just do what I would normally do when switching apps. For me that's either a double press on my iPhone 8 or slowly swipe up from below to reveal iOS Logan and more app icons at once!
AirDrop Files, Webpages, and More
AirDrop is a great way to quickly and easily share files with your iPhone. To start, make sure both devices have the feature turned on in their settings before starting from either device by selecting "Wi-Fi" or Bluetooth under Settings > Wi-Fi + Cellular Clicking each option will allow them discoverable by others nearby when connected via same network as well as any other AirDrop enabled computers near yours; next click Share then select whether recipient has account info saved already if so skip ahead otherwise enter email address & password - once complete tap Send (or simply tapping Save) button at bottom right corner after OK'ng warning about private data.
Click on the Share button and you should see an option for AirDrop. If not, click your deviceās name or enter a room symbol next to it so that other people can find you in order send files back-and forth between devices. In this example we'll show how easily sending large attachments over 1GB is done via apple's air Drop feature The process couldn't be simpler: first select what file(s) want send by clicking onto them; then tap "share" where avialable under each respective choice - either using WiFi networking & Bluetooth sharing options together.
The easiest way to transfer files is by using AirDrop. Just tap on the Share button and choose who you want send it too, then see if their device or computer has this feature enabled because if not there will be an icon surrounded by dotted lines next time around!
Play Music, Movies, and TV Shows Across Devices
If you own an iPhone and want to play music from that on your Mac computer, there are two options. You can use a Lightning USB cable or sync up with Apple Music so all of the songs in one place! Third party apps also work well using Handoff feature by Google which supports Android devices too.
Streaming is easy and affordable. Just make sure that youāre logged into your app with a few clicks on the TV, no matter where it is! You can even share movies purchased from iTunes Store, too - perfect for keeping up appearances at home or when we all need entertainment together (even if just one person hasAppleTV).
Share an Internet Connection
With just one quick step, you can turn your Mac's internet connection into a Wi-Fi hotspot. First head over System Preferences > Sharing and enable the checkbox for Internet sharing there too before clicking Start at confirmation prompt!
With the Personal Hotspot option enabled on your iPhone, you'll be able to connect it wirelessly and use its internet connection at all times. To do this though there is one thing that needs doing first- setting up a hotspot for yourself in Settings > Cellular where networks can then appear under Mobile Devices or despair not only will find yours but others as well!
With just about every modern device being equipped with some form of mobile data access these days - even newer ones like MacBooks come preinstalled with tethering capabilities out-of sheer necessity if nothing else--though much has changed since those early dialup days.
Share and Close Safari Tabs
To use your iPhone's internet connection on a Mac (known as tethering), you'll need to enable the Personal Hotspot option under Settings > Cellular. Once enabled, a prompt will appear in which it says "Find my network." Enter an SSID or tap create new wireless key if needed and then click Save This Network Now! Your mobile device will show up below with its name and status of connected before moving onto step two where another window pops up asking whether this is allowed by parental controls; input Yes here so there are no further questions asked about what networks users can access via WiFi hotspots from within Apple devices - now just wait while everything loads.
To close one of the iCloud tabs, click on its button. If you want quick access to all your open browser windows and browsing history without having any History folders cluttering up space or getting in each other's way like old-school desktop computers do then make sure there is always a Show Tab Overview option enabled by typing Cmd + Backslash (\) while holding down that key combination!
From your iPhone, you'll find the Safari tabs of Mac apps listed below active websites in a tab switcher. To reveal this interface for switching between them Tap on Tabs at bottom right corner and slide their name left to close it again!
Unlock Your Mac Using Your iPhone
If you're looking for the convenience of unlocking your Mac with a fingerprint or passcode, Unlox ($3.99) is an app that will do just what you need it to - unlock immediately as soon as its been scanned in any password protected screen!
By using your Apple Watch to unlock a Mac, you can skip the hassle of typing in passwords. For those who want more than just this feature though - there are other ways for users with an iWatch or even non-smart watches like Google Nexus 5X and 6P devices as well!
If you're someone who has one (or all) types mentioned earlier then keep reading because we have some awesome news: You don't need special equipment anymore since Auto Unlocking on any Bluetooth enabled device now works flawlessly between different operating systems such us Windows 10/8+ but also macOS Sierra along side iOS 11.
Type on Your iPhone Using Your Mac's Keyboard
What's better than having your typing habits flow seamlessly between desktop and mobile? Having them sync automatically, of course. With a few clicks in the Settings app on an iPhone or iPadāor through their respective company websites if you use Apple devices exclusively āapp data can be synced with iCloud for safekeeping across all accounts connected to one computer (you don't have this option when linking up Bluetooth keyboards).
Make and Receive Calls From Your Mac
You can receive and make both cellular and FaceTime calls on your iPhone from your Mac. To make this work, your Mac and iPhone must be connected to the same network and signed in with the same iCloud and FaceTime account. You also have to enable these settings:
- On macOS: Go to Facetime > Preferences > Settings > Calls from iPhone
- On iOS: Go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices > Allow Calls on Other Devices. From the same section, enable the toggle switch for the Mac in question.
You'll be able to see notifications for incoming calls on your Mac. You can accept or decline them right from the notification itself!
To make an outgoing call from your Mac, first Control-click on a phone number or its link. Next click the Call button and it will prompt you with "Call using iPhone: [Number]" to place that very important call!
Send and Receive SMS From Your Mac
The easiest way to send text messages from your Mac is through Text Message Forwarding on iOS or macOS. You'll need access via Settings > Messages and ensuring that you're reachable at both email address (for sending) as well phone number (to receive). To begin texting, start a conversation like normal; but instead of selecting someone else's iPhone number in their contacts list - choose yours!
Request Markups and Sketches in Real-Time
If you're on a Mac, the Continuity feature will allow for easy file transfer between your computer and iPhone. Send an annotation request from one device to another so that sketches can be added in supported apps like Pages or Numbers!
As you sketch and finish markups on the go, your iPhone is always right there with a Sketch or Markup window. You can see changes in real time as they happen on both screens because of how this app works!
Speed Up Payments
On both your Mac and iPhone, you can set up Apple Pay to make payments with just one touch. If there's a newer model of the computer that has Touch ID built-in then you'll be able let it function as an additional form for authorizations without needing any help from other devices - but if not don't worry because all older machines still need Some sort input like regular old facial recognition software!
Take Quick Snapshots
So many of us rely on our iPhones for everything from sending messages to taking pictures, but did you know that the device can also be leveraged in other ways? Sure beats carrying around several devices isn't it? Well as long as they're compatible with each other and supported apps like Mail, Keynote or even iMessage (a Apple-specific messaging app).Ā Ā You'll be able add sketches and markup straight from MacOS onto any document created with these programs by just pressing CMD+SHIFT+M then selecting "Add To:" followed by whichever type of content suits your fancy best - documents; images etc.
This feature comes in handy when you need to rush urgent reports and documents!
If you own a Mac, it can be quite convenient to use apps that transfer your phone number and data between devices. There are many third-party options available in the App Store for this purpose--some as low cost alternatives while others offer premium features at an affordable price!
